Confusion still persist over revised NET qualifying norms

UGC NET/JRF DEC 2012:Ye Raah Nahi Asaan Bus Itna Samjh lijiye

1. As per previous norms, (Till Dec 2011students belonging to general category was to get qualifying marks of 40 per cent in paper I and paper II while paper III they had to score 45 per cent, in case of OBC and SC/ ST students the qualifying percentage was 35, 35, 45 and 35, 35, 40 respectively in all the three papers.

2. The  norms laid down for UGC NET JUNE 2012 states that the candidates belonging to the general category are required to score an aggregate of 65 per cent in all three of the NET’s papers to become eligible for college and university lectureship, while OBC candidates need to score 60 per cent and SC/ ST candidates need 55 per cent.

3. Minimum Marks (%) to be obtained for NET Dec 2012
                                     GENERAL                  OBC(Non-creamy layer)                         PWD/SC/ST
PAPER – I                        40 (40%)                            35 (35%)                                   35 (35%)

PAPER – II                       40 (40%)                             35 (35%)                                  35 (35%)

PAPER– III                        75 (50 %)                    67.5 (45 %) rounded off to 68          60 (40 %)

*It is to be noted that Top 15% candidates only (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned above, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for lectureship only.

4. Futher It may be noted that JRF list would be calculated as per merit list form among the NET qualifier, no one can expect what is to be happened.

The changed criteria of UGC for NET/JRF leads to enormous pandemonium among the student community who appeared for NET exam in Dec2012 as they are questioning the whole process and are still confused about their qualifying cut off, the whole process is so complicated that aspirant seem to be ready to take legal course against the new norms.

It appears, the aspirants who appeared for the eligibility test UGC NET/JRF DEC 2012 are feeling cheated as they are of the view that the UGC should not have declared the qualifying criterion after announcing the results of June 2012 and once they have made their mind up UGC again changed its NET/JFR qualifyinng criteria there should have been separate cut-offs for all the three papers only as NET/JRF is the eligibility test and not a competitive examination, better UGC change its name from NET (National Eligibility Test) to NCT (National Competitive Test).

  2. sir I have heard through a reliable sources that The University Grants Commission (UGC) has withdrawn its decision to increase the cut-off marks for clearing NET (National Eligibility Test), following Supreme Court’s decision declaring the order invalid. Is it true?
